The section is free and open to anyone. For more information on how to have your league featured, email sportsscene@MiamiHerald.com or send a fax to 305-376-5287.

The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through our Junior Training Camps, Youth Football Clinics and Youth Football Camps.

“Our kids (Phileo Outreach Ministries) had a great time,” said Trisha Johnson, community liaison for the Phileo Outreach Ministries. “We truly appreciate the Miami Dolphins inviting us to the training camp.”

Bobby Watson, recreation specialist for North Miami, said: “The Miami Dolphins Summer Junior Training Camp is something that my campers and staff look forward to every summer. The participants really love the opportunity to play inside ‘the bubble’ and enjoy watching the team practice. For many campers, this is their first time seeing professional athletes in person. It is truly a great experience, and we look forward to the experience again next summer.”

Maurice Brazier, co-owner and COO of Liberty Academy in Miami, added: “When Liberty Academy was informed that our summer campers were invited to participate at the Miami Dolphins Junior Training Camp, the expectations among the campers and counselors were very high. One would have thought that it would have been impossible to exceed those expectations, but Miami Dolphins Junior Training Camp managed to do just that. The entire experience for our campers and the adults that accompanied them was amazing. We look forward to attending the Miami Dolphins Junior Training Camp next year.”

Florida Youth Football League

Expanding on its mission to empower students by showcasing the importance of education, the Florida Youth Football League, founded by international recording superstar Flo Rida, had its annual Back 2 School Fest at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami.

The free community concert and football jamboree was organized to assist parents with getting children pumped and prepared for the 2012-2013 school year by providing back packs, school supplies, health screenings, haircuts and more.

Traz Powell Stadium came alive that evening for the free concert headlined by magic city native Flo Rida. Born in Carol City, Flo Rida was joined by Billy Blue, Brisco, Rocko, YNWP, TeamPhlyte, Hip-Hop Kidz of South Florida, Bigg D & the Bottom Shelf Band and more. Grammy winner Betty Wright and Luther Uncle Luke Campbell also joined Flo Rida to spread “Good Feeling” toward the start of the new school year.

Back 2 School Fest, presented by Strong Arm Management, International Music Group, Dr. Wilbert Holloway District 1 and Power 96, was open to the public and sponsored in part by Truu Swag, Ted Lucas Foundation, Chop Shop, Gatorade and a host of others.
