Gearing up for the Labor Day weekend

  • Nick Roger kayaks near a mangrove island in Chokoloskee Bay in Everglades National Park at Everglades City, about 65 miles west of Miami. Labor Day visitors can rent kayaks, canoes or take boat tours in the largest mangrove forest in the Western Hemisphere.   • Matthew Devine wears a hot dog suit and shows off some of the ice cream that will be for sale on board one of the two hot dog boats his family owns and operates, called Bay Sweep Concessions. This weekend, they will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and other goodies to boaters out at Beer Can Island and the Haulover Inlet sandbar.
