Coach Al Golden said that 6-8, 340-pound offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson will not make the trip to Boston College for Saturday’s season opener. Henderson, the 2009 USA Today Offensive Player of the Year, has been practicing on the scout team. The coach said he hoped Henderson would soon battle his way back from the practice squad.

Also not making the trip is defensive tackle Curtis Porter, who began camp on the first team but reportedly is recuperating from an appendectomy.

DEWEY BEATS OUT CROW

Freshman Preston Dewey has beaten out freshman Gray Crow at third-team quarterback. Dewey will make the trip to Boston.

Golden said position battles will continue through Wednesday. After that, if there is an “or” between the names of two-deep players, both will play.

• Although Allen Hurns, who was nursing a head injury, was full go Tuesday, fellow wide receiver Malcolm Lewis wore a yellow (limited) jersey. … Linebacker Raphael Kirby had the cast removed from his leg Tuesday. … Golden said to expect 14 or 15 true freshmen to play Saturday.

• When told that UM players said they were going to “shock the world” this season, Golden said, “I would like to put them in the chair you’re in and shock them — give them a lot of volts. … Let’s be internally driven.”
