Sept. 8: Akron, 6 p.m. (ESPN3)FIU Stadium: If a talent-thin team with a new coaching staff isn’t Homecoming, it should be. FIU 35, Akron 10.

Sept. 15: @ UCF, 4 p.m. (CSS)Bright House Networks Stadium: Jake Medlock in his fifth start vs. UCF’s tough defense in its home opener. UCF 20, FIU 13.

Sept. 22: Louisville, 7 p.m. (ESPN3)FIU Stadium: Louisville’s edge in talent against FIU being more physically mature and at home. Louisville 26, FIU 23 (OT).

Sept. 29: @ La.-Lafayette, 7 (ESPN3)Cajun Field: In a shootout game, bet on the better defense to make the big play. FIU 38, ULL 28.

Oct. 4: Arkansas St., 7:30 p.m., (ESPNU) FIU Stadium: Another shootout game, and the Florida International Golden Panthers will stand tall once again. FIU 41, ASU 31.

Oct. 13: Middle Tenn. St., 6 p.m. (No TV)FIU Stadium: The nine-day layoff for the Golden Panthers gives them time for rest and refocus. FIU 34, MTSU 13

Oct. 20: @ Troy, 1 p.m. (CSS)Veterans Memorial Stadium. This game, on the road against an underrated Troy team, will show if FIU’s taken that next step as a program. FIU 26, Troy 20.

Oct. 27: Western Kentucky, TBA (TBA)FIU Stadium: Like last year, this should be another defensive showdown that goes to the home team. FIU 17, WKU 6.

Nov. 3: @ South Alabama, TBA (TBA)Ladd-Peebles Stadium: The Jaguars are just making the jump to Football BAll Subdivision (nee Division I) this year. FIU 45, USA 10

Nov. 16: @ FAU, 8 p.m. (ESPNU)FAU Stadium: A night game and the almost new nest won’t help the rebuilding Owls. FIU 38, FAU 6.

Nov. 24: La.-Monroe, TBA (TBA)FIU Stadium: If both teams stay healthy, this could be for the game that decides the Sun Belt champion. FIU 34, ULM 21.
