Freshman cornerback Vernon Davis expected to transfer from Miami Hurricanes to West Virginia

Hurricanes freshman cornerback Vernon Davis has been released from his scholarship and is expected to transfer to West Virginia on Wednesday.

Davis would be forced to sit out this season.

Davis, a former standout and All Miami-Dade first-team selection at Miami Coral Reef, let UM know of his intentions Friday, according to his former high school coach Chevas Clements.

“I asked why and he just said he wasn’t happy,” Clements said.

Reached by phone, Davis’ mother confirmed her son was considering transferring and was “unhappy,” but didn’t want to elaborate on where he was headed.

“Nothing is official yet,” Theodofia Davis said. “I’d prefer you talk to him about it.”

Davis was one of eight incoming defensive backs the program signed between January and February.
