TALLAHASSEE -- Coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed Monday afternoon what many around the Florida State program had suspected since fall practice started.
“He’ll likely redshirt,” said Fisher of senior defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel. “You have to give him a full year to get healthy, and we’ve got the depth.”
McDaniel dislocated his ankle last season in a win over Duke, and he has yet to return to team activities. The 6-0, 285-pounder recently said he would be OK with taking the year to regain his health.
“If they need me I’ll come back,” McDaniel said over the weekend. “But if not, I’ll just redshirt and take that year to get strong, get better.”
A little ‘wet ball’
Florida State got its practice in during a rain-soaked Tallahassee afternoon. The team showed great enthusiasm during “wet ball,” as Fisher called it.
Florida State will practice twice Tuesday before holding its second scrimmage of fall practice on Thursday.
