Miami Dolphins rookie QB Ryan Tannehill starting Friday night

Ryan Tannehill will start Friday night’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, broadcaster Dick Stockton has told 790 The Ticket.

Stockton is calling Friday night’s game for CBS4 and was told of the decision by Dolphins coaches.

Throughout the week, Tannehill practiced solely with the first team, while Matt Moore — his only competition while David Garrard recovers from knee surgery — switched reps between the first and second team.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said earlier in the week he wanted to see Tannehill play against a first-team defense at some point in the preseason before making a decision on who starts the opener on Sept. 9.
