Fall camp slump takes Hurricanes out of black jerseys

Indicative of the fall camp funk that coach Al Golden said his players have fallen into, starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman has not been wearing the black jersey the past couple days that first-team defensive players are given. Perryman, in green Thursday, needs to be pushed through the end of camp so he can “be the playmaker we know he can be,” Golden said. Only two players were in black jerseys: defensive end Shayon Green and punter Dalton Botts.

Injury report

Defensive end Anthony Chickillo, another leader on defense, wore a yellow (limited) jersey for the second day in a row. Chickillo told reporters Wednesday he had a stomach flu. Golden said he had a sinus infection. “I don’t know how much he’ll do,” Golden said. “If he handle that then he’ll progress back to a jersey.’’… Receiver Allen Hurns did not practice and is wearing a no-contact red jersey. “We’re just being careful with his head,’’ Golden said...Linebacker Gionni Paul (knee) is doing better, the coach said. “I was pleased that he fought through the [special teams] scrimmage.’’… Offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson missed practice to attend a funeral in Minnesota.
