‘Aire frío’ (‘Cold Air’)

Through the decades in Cuba, a family dreams, hopes and despairs. A production of Virgilio Piñera’s ‘Aire frío’ (Cold Air) by Havana’s Argos Teatro kicks off ‘Absurd Celebration: The First International Festival of Virgilio Piñera’s Theatre’ this weekend. Still to come are ‘El juego de Electra’ (Electra’s Game) by Spain’s Mephisto Teatro (Aug. 24-26), ‘Los siervos’ (The Serfs) by Havana’s Teatro de la Luna (Aug. 31-Sept. 2), ‘Una caja de zapatos vacía’ (An Empty Shoebox) by Miami’s Mudras Project/E.G. Productions (Sept. 7-9), and ‘Carrying Water in a Sieve’ from UM’s Department of Theatre Arts (Sept. 14-22). Performances are at the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, 1312 Miller Dr., Coral Gables, at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday, in Spanish with English supertitles (UM students perform in English). Festival package tickets are $75 ($60 for students and seniors); individual tickets are $20 ($15 for students and seniors. Call 305-284-3355 or visit www.miami.edu/ring.
