New Marriott in Pompano Beach breaks ground

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Wednesday for a new Marriott hotel in Pompano Beach.

The 219-room property at 1208 N. Ocean Blvd. is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013.

Each room in the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Oceanfront will have a private balcony and ocean view. The resort, which is being built on the former site of the Ocean Point Beach Resort, also includes meeting space and a ballroom that overlooks the ocean, as well as a rooftop terrace, pools and oceanfront restaurant.

Developer Urgo Hotels did not disclose the cost of the project.
