LOXAHATCHEE -- Three dogs were shot and killed this week after they charged at Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies who were trying to arrest a Loxahatchee man, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman said.
Two deputies went to a home at about 2:15 pm. Tuesday to arrest Ricky Woodman, 48, on a charge of violating a restraining order, sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.
Woodman was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday and released Wednesday on his own recognizance, jail records show.
Woodman worked on the property as a mechanic and did not own the dogs, Barbera said.
The homeowner was not home and Woodman allowed the deputies onto the property. One deputy arrested Woodman and placed him in handcuffs. The dogs then charged at the deputies, Barbera said. One deputy, fearing for his safety, fired his service weapon multiple times, striking and killing all three dogs.
Other dogs were located on the property, but had been restrained, Barbera said.
