Bomb scare at Hollywood park turns out to be spent fireworks mortar

Miami Herald Staff

Hollywood investigated a possible explosive device at Jefferson Park Thursday, evacuating people and bringing in a robot to check out the device.

Despite the scare and the “credible threat,” the explosive turned out to be a used fireworks mortar.

Someone in the park noticed it and flagged down a police officer, who called the bomb squad, said Hollywood fire spokesman Joel Medina.

The investigation finished at about 11:30 a.m. at the park, Madison Street and 16th Avenue.
