More than 500 ride to honor two bicyclists struck down by man fleeing police

One week after two of their best friends died before their eyes, James Bolger Jr. and Allen Dunn set out on their regular weekend bicycle ride Sunday, this time in the company of more than 500 others from South Florida’s cycling community.

The 32-mile journey from Embassy Lakes in Cooper City to Hollywood beach and back was to honor Christopher McConnell, 61, and Dean Amelkin, 60, who died instantly at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Palm Avenue on Aug. 5 when they were hit by a car driven by a fleeing burglary suspect.
