When the United States women’s gymnastics team won the gold, I saw more than that. I saw a desire that led to passion, charisma and a work ethic that made the athletes worthy of realizing their dreams. Family support as well as help from philanthropy and government also played a role.
From Michelangelo to the discovery of the Higgs boson particle to Olympic glory, we should not believe that individual talent and determination are sufficient. There’s a role for the people through mechanisms of the state to contribute as well.
