Basketball star. Olympian. Fashion icon. Businessman.

Now Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is adding a new accomplishment to his resume: Author.

Starting Monday, his first book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball, can be pre-ordered before its official Sept. 4 publication date by HarperCollinsPublishers. The book sells for $26.99. (Pre-order price is $17.81 on Amazon).

A book signing tour kicks off on publication day in New York. The tour has South Florida stops. Wade will be signing his book for fans in Fort Lauderdale on Sept. 7 at Book & Books at the Museum of Art and on Sept. 9 at Books & Books in Coral Gables.

Here’s what Wade’s publisher says of A Father First.

“In this moving and triumphant memoir, Wade shares his inspiring thoughts about fathers and sons, writing poignantly about the gratifying responsibilities of being a single dad to his two sons, Zaire and Zion, while recounting his own growing up years and his memorable rise to the top echelon of professional basketball.”

The book begins just as Wade’s “fatherhood journey” starts in March 2011 with the news that after a bitter custody battle, he has been awarded sole custody of his sons in a virtually unprecedented Chicago court decision.

“A Father First chronicles the lessons Dwyane has learned as a single dad from the moment of the judge's ruling that instantly changed his life and the lives of his boys, and then back to the events in the past that shaped his dreams, prayers, and promises, “ the publisher says.
