Re the July 26 letter Statue s olution, about the Penn State statue of Joe Paterno: How about never erecting a statue of or naming a street or a building after a living person?
How many times in recent history has this happened? Pay proper tribute to those who deserve such honors after they pass on, not before.
The city of Cincinnati considered removing Pete Rose Way signs from Third Street, but ultimately did the right thing to honor his accomplishments on the field. The Paterno family will forever be embarrassed for “Joe Pa” admitting, “I should’ve done more.” Continuing to humiliate his family is just wrong. I hope someday the statue, honoring his achievements as coach and educator, will be appropriately displayed.
