Sen. Marco Rubio demands in his July 31 Other Views article, We still have a chance to get it right, only “military might” in Syria’s civil war.
He uses this pulpit to begin by politically bashing the Obama administration’s consistent adherence to the complexity of diplomacy and the diverse global interests of the countries with a stake in the Middle East.
He admits to a black-or-white simplicity of never acting to embrace diplomacy by stating, “Months ago, I called for the United States to step up and lead an aggressive international campaign” in Syria. This demonstrates that if you want to send your children off to another idiotic war and make even more enemies, vote for an “R” word: Romney, Rubio or Republican.
As a newly elected senator, Rubio needs to reflect on the symbolism of the American eagle holding the olive branch, as well as the arrows in its talons.
