The Miami Dolphins and punter Brandon Fields finalized a four-year contract extension Saturday that makes Fields the fifth-highest paid punter in the league, his agent has announced.

Fields will be paid $13.3 million over the course of the deal, including $3.3 million in guaranteed money. Fields, 28, was in the final year of his current contract, earning $1.4 million in base salary.

“Brandon is very happy,” said Ian Greengross, who put the finishing touches on the negotiations in person Saturday. “He knows that he’s been getting better every year and he’s earned it.”

The deal was announced shortly after the Dolphins’ scrimmage Saturday, during which Fields boomed three punts over 57 yards. His 48.8 yards per punt last year ranked third in the NFL. Fields has been a member of the Dolphins since they selected him in the seventh round of the 2007 draft.
