A North Miami man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after police said he burned the dog’s back.
Witvil Florvil, 29, was charged with animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill on Friday, a news release from the North Miami Police Department said. Florvil being held on a $5,000 bond, according to online Miami-Dade Corrections records.
Florvil’s dog was found with second and third-degree burns on her back on July 10 after a neighbor complained about an injured dog.
“The dog is clearly a fighter,” Kathleen Labrada, Miami-Dade Animal Services director, told CBS4. “These are extremely painful wounds he’s suffering from. He’s a little stand-offish around people. But I would be, too.”
The dog was taken by North Miami Animal Control and given medical attention, according to the news release. He is now recovering at Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue in South Carolina.
