Judge rejects primary lawsuit

 

Only Democrats will be allowed to vote this month in the primary election for a southeast Broward County Commission seat, after a judge on Friday threw out a lawsuit to open the election to all voters.

Attorney Bill Scherer had sued on behalf of a Republican voter in Fort Lauderdale, arguing that if Democrats alone vote in August, they’ll be selecting the District 7 County Commissioner winner themselves, and disenfranchising the thousands of Republicans, Independents and others in the district.
