Big screen

Opening Friday

Total Recall (PG-13): Colin Farrell takes over from Arnold Schwarzenegger in this new retelling of the Philip K. Dick story about a man whose memories may be not his own. Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston co-star for director Len Wiseman (“Underworld’), who must try to top the wonderful excesses of Paul Verhoeven’s film.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (PG): This adaptation of the fourth book in Jeff Kinney’s popular series follows best pals Greg (Zachary Gordon) and Rowley (Robert Capron) as they figure out what to do with themselves during summer break.

Red Lights (R): Writer-director Rodrigo Cortés (“Buried”) returns with this creepy thriller about a psychologist (Sigourney Weaver) researching paranormal activity. Robert DeNiro, Elizabeth Olsen and Toby Jones co-star.

The Queen of Versailles (PG): Lauren Greenfield’s buzzed-about documentary centers on a billionaire couple in the midst of building their dream mansion when the economy collapses.

Small screen

Bar Rescue (10 p.m. Sunday, Spike) If you recently woke up after a visit to Fort Lauderdale’s Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar with a splitting headache, no memory of the past 12 hours, and a phone number written on your forehead in pink lipstick, here’s some good news: Maybe your evening is going to be on TV. The place is featured on this new bar-rescue reality show. Sorry, money for bail or divorce attorneys not included.

About Face (9 p.m. Monday, HBO) Old supermodels never die, they just crumble into a cloud of dried Botox. OK, not really. But getting old and wrinkled, not much fun for any of us, is even tougher when your entire career depends on looking good. This documentary features surprisingly frank interviews with cover girls of the long ago and far away like Marisa Berenson, Isabella Rossellini and Cheryl Tiegs.

Four Houses (10 p.m. Monday, TLC) What could be better than a hardball contest show in which homeowners trash one another’s sense of design and decor for fun and prizes? Why, if your own neighbors were on it, of course! This week’s episode is an all-South Florida affair.

Joss Whedon went from directing last summer's blockbuster "The Avengers" to a black and white adaption of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing."

    Movies

Joss Whedon makes a Shakespeare film in 12 days

If man is indeed a giddy thing — as William Shakespeare suggests in Much Ado About Nothing, insinuating we are impulsive beyond all reason — then Joss Whedon may be the giddiest man of all. After all, he’s the director who decided to make a quick movie in his down time between shooting his first big-budget film and editing it; the screenwriter who dared to adapt a play from the greatest wordsmith in the English language; the optimist who thought: Hey, yeah, let’s shoot a Shakespearean comedy at my house; it’ll be fun.
