The Broward Public Defender’s Office is demanding that a court scrutinize a Pembroke Pines juvenile center after allegations of children being physically abused at the facility.
After a tense two-hour hearing, a three-judge panel postponed a decision on whether it is the court’s responsibility to investigate operations at Thompson Academy, a 154-bed youth offender and treatment facility, and, if necessary, to remove teenage boys from it.
