Get ready to see lots of skin — and bellybuttons. Mercedes Benz FashionWeek: Swim is here. To get you in the spirit take a gander at LA based model Jessica Gomes underwater on the current cover of Ocean Drive. The Aussie talked to us before her hosting duties began for OD’s Thursday night VIP party at the Delano Beach Club.

How did you like posing underwater?

It was at this beautiful property in New Jersey in a huge indoor heated pool. It was quite challenging trying not to blow bubbles and make funny faces.

You have an interesting heritage.

I was born in Sydney, and my mother is Chinese and my father Portuguese. When I was a baby, my whole family moved to Perth, where I grew up. My whole family still lives there. I go back every Christmas, and I try to make more visits in between. I miss it so much. I love going home because it’s so isolated and the beaches are so quiet. It does get tough sometimes. I wish I could just pop over to Mum and Dad’s for dinner!

How do you keep yourself swimsuit ready?

I eat healthy and make sure I have plenty of vitamins and water. I train as much as I can when I’m not traveling. I do dance aerobics and Pilates.

What is your guiltiest pleasure food-wise?

Dessert and wine. Probably a chocolate souffle and nice glass of French rose.

What people have inspired you in your career?

I love what Elle Macpherson has done as a model and a brand. She’s super healthy and is a good role model for women. Cate Blanchett is the most amazing actress and still lives in Australia and seems to just care about her craft and not the fame side of things.

What is something that’s always in your purse?

My lip gloss, phone and keys. Must have juicy, shiny lips, must communicate and must get into my home!

What is something fans might be surprised to know about you?

That I love to dance and sing R&B and hip-hop.

The legendary Wonder performed for well over two hours, singing covers by The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Bob Marley as well as his own greatest hits. Wonder also invited some of the audience, this writer included, to audition for him on his hit, Part Time Lover. While he told us we were better than the previous, uh, contestant, we’ll be keeping the full time day job.
