Body pulled out of canal could be linked to Monday crash on Interstate 95

The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to determine if a body of a man found in a Pompano Beach canal Thursday afternoon is that of passenger ejected from a car on Monday.

The body was found around 3 p.m. after someone spotted it in the canal near Northwest Eighth Street and 10th Avenue and flagged down a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy.

FHP was called to retrieve the body found some 200-feet north of Monday night’s accident, where a car rolled over the Interstate 95 divider and into a canal north of Atlantic Boulevard, said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured, but the car’s unidentified passenger was not found at the scene. A dive team had searched the area earlier this week but found nothing.

“The investigation is still preliminary,” Wysocky said. “We’re still trying to verify if this was the second person in the car.”
