Ex-aide to Hastings gets prison time in fraud case

Mikel Jones, who owned a Philadelphia law office at the same time he served as a top aide to U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings — whose office is more than 1,000 miles away in Palm Beach County — has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for conspiracy, money laundering, wire fraud and mail fraud.

His wife, Dona Nichols Jones, was also sentenced to one day in prison by U.S. District Judge Berle M. Schiller for conspiracy, money laundering and wire fraud.
