People wait in the lobby for their tour of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia.
The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia is opening a new tour to visitors on Tuesday, the first upgrade in more than 40 years. The $3.9 million exhibit includes artifacts and coins from the Mint’s earliest days, as well as windows overlooking the production floor with touch screens and interactive features that illustrate the coin-making process. Mint spokesman Tom Jurkowsky says the new tour really shows the skill and artistry involved in making America’s coins. The facility makes around 25 million coins every day. Details:
