Chinese Jamaicans straddle both cultures, with many speaking Hakka, a language of Southern provinces in China, in addition to English and patois. And their growth in South Florida is evident in local restaurants, festivals and even some of the products that line the shelves in mainstream supermarkets.
There are more than 153,000 Jamaicans living in the tri-country region and 27,000 of Chinese ancestry, according to the Census, which does not break down Chinese Jamaicans.
