Banners bash Miami-Dade mayor at Miami Heat parade

pmazzei@MiamiHerald.com

The Miami Heat’s championship parade turned political last week, as three planes hauled banners bashing Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

“LeBron, ! Mayor Gimenez, no!” read one. “The Heat is hot, Mayor Gimenez is not,” said another. And the third: “Heat = champs, Mayor Gimenez = chump.”

Sasha Tirador, the campaign manager of Gimenez’s chief opponent, Commission Chairman Joe Martinez, said Martinez’s camp was “absolutely not” behind the banners.

“Whoever did it is an idiot,” Tirador said. “There is no place for personal insults in the public forum.”
