Glenn Thervil died to get a smoke.

The man suspected of shooting the 30-year-old Deerfield Beach resident was arrested Thursday.

Thervil was hanging out in Deerfield Beach with a few guys Wednesday afternoon, and he asked to bum a cigarette from one of them, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

According to BSO, here’s what happened:

Thervil pulled out a .32-caliber handgun and threatened 25-year-old Roderick Tyrone Ferguson. Two of their friends who were with them at Mayo Howard Park urged Thervil to leave, chastising him for pulling out the gun. They left with him and told Thervil to go home and stay there.

He didn’t listen to them. Thervil went back to Mayo Howard Park and got into a fight with Ferguson.

Ferguson shot him in the chest with a shotgun. Thervil died at the scene.

Thervil’s handgun was still in his waistband when officers found him.

BSO arrested Ferguson, of Deerfield Beach, early Thursday morning.

He faces one count of first-degree murder and a charge of probation violation.

Ferguson was being held at the Broward County Jail.
