Sweet victory for Miami Heat celebrated with big cake

What do you give the team that has everything? A ridiculously gigantic cake.

Laura Candeau, of Divine Delicacies Cakes, reports the local company had the honor of creating the masterpiece for the Miami Heat champs. They were so confident our boys were going to win that Candeau and Co. began mixing the batter before Game 5 last Thursday night.

For their team’s official celebration at Bamboo in Miami Beach Saturday, everyone chowed down on a four-tiered vanilla rum beauty topped with an edible sugar gold replica of The Larry O’Brien trophy. The six footer had the players’ jerseys around the red tier surrounded by Swarovski crystals, plus fondant-painted flames. Sizzling!

Candeau says that when The Three Kings saw the creation, they were so pleased they bent down to give the giant dessert a kiss.

Hail to the meal

And from The Three Kings to the leader of the free world: We found out what went down President Obama’s stomach Tuesday night at a private fundraiser at the home of Abigail and F.J. Pollak. The $40,000 a head meal hosted by Marc Anthony was prepared by David Schwadron Catering & Event Design’s chef de cuisine Aaron Dreilinger.

Among the so-called butlered savories were pistachio crusted lamb chops; coconut lime shrimp with guava aoili; and wild mushroom and pine nut pizza with herbed feta cream. Entrees included sliced mojo filet mignon and Key Lime diver scallops over black bean orzo risotto. No one left hungry with blood orange pound cake served with dark rum chorizo pecan ice cream for dessert.
