President Obama to travel to Miami on Tuesday

The president’s visit, for two fundraisers, may cause traffic jams during afternoon rush hour.

President Barack Obama will travel to South Florida on Tuesday to attend a pair of fundraisers, including one with salsa singer Marc Anthony.

The president and the pop star will appear Tuesday night at the Jackie Gleason Theater at the Fillmore in Miami Beach. Before that event, Obama is scheduled to attend a smaller, private fundraiser.

The presidential motorcade will likely tie up traffic after he arrives Tuesday afternoon.

The fundraiser comes as Obama and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney battle for the coveted Hispanic vote — and as immigration, a key political issue for Hispanic voters, has taken center stage in the presidential campaign.

In a web advertisement Marc Anthony made for Obama in the lead-up to Tuesday’s event, the singer says, “Latinos are a force that can and will help decide this election .... The president has our back. So it’s time to let him know we’ve got his.”
