Suspect wounded by Hialeah police

 

Hialeah police wounded a man Monday morning after he tried to run down an officer during a confrontation.

The unidentified man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His condition is unknown.

The officer was treated for his injuries an released.

It all began when the Hialeah officer began to follow a suspect in a white van believed to have been stolen. The shooting erupted when he stopped the man near a hotel on Okeechobee Road and Park Avenue, said police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez.

The wounded suspect managed to briefly escape but was arrested two blocks from the initial scene.

A woman in the car with the suspect was not injured in the shooting. She is being questioned by police.
