Officials have released the name of the man who was killed Wednesday after he tried to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 on foot, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Bruce Allen Cook Jr., 54 of Fort Lauderdale, died after a Chevrolet van hit him as he crossed the interstate around 3 a.m. near Davie Boulevard in Broward County.

The driver of the van tried to swerve to avoid Cook, but it was too late.

Police determined alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

FHP continues to investigate.
