Driver killed in hit and run on Florida Turnpike

A woman died Friday night on the northbound Florida Turnpike near 200 Street in a hit-and-run that involved three cars.

Elizabeth Sanchez, 37, was in a Nissan Pathfinder with driver Bryan Echevarria, 29, when another car hit the back of the Pathfinder. Echevarria lost control of the car, causing it to rotate and face the wrong direction on the road. A tow truck going north then hit the Pathfinder head-on.

Rescuers took Sanchez and Echevarria to Kendall Regional Medical Center where Sanchez died. Echevarria is in serious condition.

Ernesto Diaz, the 20-year-old driver of the tow truck, was not injured.

The driver of the other car fled the scene and could not be identified. Officials say they are possibly looking for a light-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser with left side damage.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and asking anyone with information to call 305-471-TIPS.
