South Florida-made Rock of Ages has feeble weekend box office showing

Rock of Ages, which was mostly filmed in South Florida and stars Tom Cruise, had a poor showing at the weekend domestic box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, which stars Tom Cruise, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin, came in third, grossing $15.21 million.

That was well behind the No. 1 movie, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, which grossed $35.5 million and the No.2 movie, Prometheus with $20.2 million.

More surprising was the poor showing of Adam Sandler's R-rated That's My Boy which grosse d $13 million to take the No. 5 spot.

That is the worst opening for a Sandler comedy in eight years, the newspaper said.
