Three men who were injured by a lightning strike during an intense South Florida storm on Friday continue to recover.

Two of the men have been identified as 29-year-old Diego Hernandez and 46-year-old Sergio Museguez.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials, Hernandez, Museguez, and a third man were standing by a pickup truck at a construction site at 2251 East Mowry Drive in Homestead when lightning struck nearby.

“They were just standing here just talking about the construction site when a lightning strike hits and affects all three of them,” explained Detective Fernando Morales of the Homestead Police Department.

One of the men went into cardiac arrest, but was revived and taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

“He actually was non-responsive and in cardiac arrest,” said Morales. “Homestead police arrived and conducted CPR and were actually able to get a pulse. They basically saved his life.”

A second man was also hospitalized for burns.

The third victim, Hernandez, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Homestead Hospital.
