Unsolved killings get fresh scrutiny

Stabbed and beaten, Estrella Black’s body lay slumped across the front seat of her car for most of a day before someone realized she was dead.

That was 30 years ago this week, and still, no one has been charged with killing her, but thanks to a federal grant, police are reopening cases that have languished for decades due to a lack of evidence pointing to the killers.
