Mick Foley’s comedy act coming to Ocala

 

Remembering Malenko; Helping Kamala

WWE legend Mick Foley brings his comedy act to the Bang TV Sound Stage on Thursday, July 12 in Ocala, Fla. Following his full-time wrestling career, Foley has been touring the world, making people laugh.

The show is part of a pro wrestling card, run by WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr.

Doors open 6:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. bell time. Tickets are on sale online at http://www.dory-funk.com.

• K-Five Fellas and Definitive Wrestling International present the Boris The Great Malenko Memorial Cup at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the DWI Arena at the Riverview Flea Market, 7415 Hwy. 301 S. in Riverview, Fla.

This annual event honors one of pro wrestling’s greatest stars, Boris The Great Malenko, who was 61 when he died of leukemia in September 1994.

Malenko was a top draw for 20 years and sold out arenas throughout the world. Many of his top battle were in Florida in the 1960s and 70s against Eddie Graham, Wahoo McDaniel, Joe Scarpa, Bill Watts, Jack Brisco, Sam Steamboat and The Gladiator.

Malenko held many titles including the NWA Brass Knucks title eight times, Southern title, Southern tag titles with Missouri Mauler, Florida title, Florida tag team belts with Bob Roop and Mr. Wrestling II, NWA World tag belts with Johnny Valentine, NWA Texas tag titles with Killer Karl Kox and the AWA tag team titles with Bob Giegel.

Malenko, who retired in 1978, teamed with his sons, Dean and Joe, to open the famous Malenko School of Wrestling in Tampa. They trained Kane, Sean Waltman (X-Pac), WCW TV champ Prince Iaukea, Fred Ottman (Tugboat/Typhoon), Barry Horowitz, The Masked Superstar, Mike Graham, former World champ Al Perez, The Blackharts, Frankie Reyes, Buddy Landell, Gangrel, Luna Vachon, Horace Hogan, Demolition Smash, Perry Saturn, Rusty Brooks, Jumbo Barretta, World tag champs the Southern Posse, Jeff Bradley (Dudley Dudley), Big Jim Magnum, Bob Cook and more.

The card is highlighted by the Malenko Alumni Battle Royal with referee Frankie Reyes who will also face student Drew Blaze in a trainer versus student match. Reyes has spent 30 years in the business.

Lighting Monroe defends the Boris Malenko Memorial Brass Knucks Trophy against Joe Malenko. In mixed tag, The Blackhart and Jessica Johnson will see action. Rey Ayala defends the DWI title against Andreas Rossi, and Jose Lopez and Mondo Ayala battle Los Latino Locos (Gino Latino and Ric Royal) and more.
