Miami-Dade commissioners honor Bad Boys filmmaker Michael Bay

Miami-Dade commissioners fawned over a celebrity last week: the filmmaker behind Armageddon, Bad Boys and Transformers.

“It’s humbling to have Michael Bay Day,” director and producer Michael Bay said from the podium. Then, without skipping a beat, he added: “I don’t know what that means.”

The commissioners laughed.

Bay, a part-time Miami Beach resident, was wrapping up production of Pain and Gain, which filmed in various locations across South Florida. He gracefully accepted the recognition from Commissioner Sally Heyman, who praised his movies for bringing jobs and cash to the county.

“Movies help,” Bay said. “It’s important when cities help us, because it does get the word out that Miami’s a sexy place with soul.”
