A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Thursday with a spear in his forehead after he and a friend tried to work a spear gun.

The 16-year-old and his 15-year-old friend were hanging out at a lake near Southwest 51st Street and 138th Avenue, and one of them tried to load the spear gun, Miami-Dade police said.

The spear gun fired, hitting the 16-year-old in the head. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, alive and conscious.

The boys’ names were not released. Police said the incident appeared to be an accident.
