A proposed private school appears poised for rejection by the West Kendall Community Council.

Four months ago, developer Pedro Camejo proposed building a school on 3 acres on the northwest corner of Southwest 59th Street and 135th Avenue. The council turned him down.

Now he’s proposing a similar plan, but with 800 students instead of the 814 that was rejected in February. Miami-Dade County rules would allow a maximum of 260 students on the site. The council’s professional staff is recommending that the council reject the plan again.

A staff analysis also said the school would create noise and traffic, would be “incompatible with the surrounding area” and lacks an adequate playground.

The site is surrounded by townhouses, office buildings, warehouses and a Florida Power and Light transmission line.

The school would be a two-story building with a parking lot on FPL’s land. There would be entrances and exists on 59th Street and 135th Avenue.

The council’s professional staff is recommending denial again. The Community Council will hear the zoning application at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kendall Village Center Civic Pavilion, 8625 SW 124th Ave.
