Hurricane Andrew

Hurricane memories

Ana Veciana-Suarez’s May 30 article, Remembering how Hurricane Andrew changed South Florida 20 years ago — Lessons from a monster, in the 2012 Hurricane Watch special section, was Veciana-Suarez at her best, and her best is considerable.

She captured significant aspects of how that hurricane affected Miami-Dade and revealed also what a skilled observer and writer she is. Her words connected with my memories of that event, which highlighted the best and worst of our area and people.

Thanks to The Miami Herald and Veciana-Suarez for that beautiful piece and for its insight.
