Re the May 20 column by Myriam Marquez, State shares blame for school woes: Marquez honestly addresses how thoughtless, imbalanced and inconsistent the state’s leadership has been since declaring an all-out assault on public education. Her question “Is the point to strengthen public schools or to destroy them?” needs a definitive answer.

Simply put, the point is to destroy them. In no conceivable way can we attribute what is happening in Tallahassee as beneficial, uplifting or consistent with rational thought. Certain powerful figures or entities are motivated by self-righteousness or greed. I fear that the ultimate goal is to undermine public education to justify allowing private entities to capture a significant portion of the revenue it generates.

Unlike those underpaid and dedicated public servants in public education, whose blood, sweat and tears go into keeping our children afloat, elected officials continue to work hard to ensure that, no matter what, our children will fail.
