A fire ripped through a North Miami-Dade plant nursery Thursday morning, closing U.S. 1 for several hours and raising the suspicion of arson by firefighters who said they found gasoline cans in back of the building.
A firefighter told Channel 7 that the cause may be arson. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Michelle Fayed says the cause remains undetermined while investigators comb the scene.
Flames shot from the roof of Paradise Flowers and Plants, 11338 Biscayne Blvd., at about 3 a.m. The nursery is next to a trailer park, Three Palms Cuban cafe and a strip club called Secrets.
Firefighters and Miami-Dade officers were still working the scene at sunrise. The interior of the building sustained heavy damage.
A one-block stretch of Biscayne Boulevard at Northeast 113th and 114th streets was closed in both directions until about 8 a.m.
