Teenager shot while riding his bicycle in West Palm Beach

A 13-year-old boy was shot at least three times while riding his bicycle near the Palm Tran bus service headquarters, a police spokesman said.

The teen was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center with "significant life-threatening injuries," said Allan Ortman, a West Palm Beach police spokesman.

The teen was riding his bicycle northbound near Palm Tran's parking lot on Electronics Way south of 36th Street around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when a black car traveling south drove up next to him and fired several shots, Ortman said.

The boy was hit him "at least once" in the upper body, Ortman said.

Police said they know his identity but are not prepared to release it. Police said they have "good leads" but no suspects in custody.

The car's roof had a convertible-style roof that is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the car, Ortman said.
