Re Myriam Marquez’s Feb. 19 column, GOP snubs tuition break for dreamers: Shame on the state Legislature for not approving bills that would have allowed undocumented high school graduates to receive more affordable college tuition rates.
Shame, too, on U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio for not making an honest effort to bring clarity and resolve this issue when it clearly stifles the ability of so many deserving young people in his own state to achieve their educational goals.
Marquez’s comments expose the GOP’s callous and narrow stance on immigration, which exemplifies its extremist mentality. It’s why many other important issues in America that need to be objectively and fairly scrutinized rarely get resolved.
Maybe we’re all a bit naive for depending upon elected officials to do the right thing.
