Miami Springs resident Marlene Wolff, 47, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 p.m. after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Marc, daughters Melanie and Mia, son Mason; parents Lawrence Joseph Bruener and Karen Ann Stevens Bruener; siblings Jeffrey Bruener, Timothy Bruener, Kenneth Bruener and Emily Messina.

Born Aug. 24, 1964, Marlene attended Blessed Trinity Catholic School and Miami Springs Senior High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Urban Education from Florida International University.

Wolff dedicated her life to teaching and will be remembered by her students at Blessed Trinity Catholic School, Springview Elementary, Comstock Elementary, Miami Springs Baptist Preschool and the Miami Springs Recreation Center's Swim Program.

Marlene was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in 2009 and had since dedicated her life to increasing awareness and advocating early detection of the disease. To achieve those goals, Wolff’s family established the nonprofit Message from Marli Foundation.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, more than 500 people showed up at Stafford Park to take part in a walkathon, Miles for Marli.

The viewing will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church from 2 to 9 p.m.

A memorial mass will be held at Blessed Trinity on Friday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. with the burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Blessed Trinity Catholic School, 4020 Curtiss Pkwy., Miami Springs, FL 33166.
