Finalists were announced Tuesday for the PEN/Faulkner award, including The Lost Memory of Skin by Russell Banks, which is set in fictional “Calusa” (Miami) on the edge of “the Great Panzacola Swamp” (the Everglades).
Don DeLillo, known for such novels as Underworld, was nominated for The Angel Esmeralda, his first book of short stories. Other finalists: Steve Millhauser’s story collection We Others, Anita Desai’s collection of three novellas, The Artist of Disappearance and Julie Otsuka’s novel The Buddha in the Attic.
The winner, to be announced March 26, receives $15,000.
