Rudy Moise, the Haitian-American entrepreneur who lost the 2010 Democratic primary for Congressional District 24 to Frederica Wilson, is going to try for the newly redrawn seat again. Moise filed his candidacy in December.
Wilson was elected after defeating eight primary challengers with nearly 35 percent of the vote. Moise placed second with 16 percent.Because of redistricting, the new District 24 stretches slightly further south and east from the existing district, which extends from Overtown to Pembroke Pines. It remains solidly Democratic.
Moise could not be reached for comment. Campaign manager Willis Howard said they are focused on collecting ballot signatures to avoid filing fees and raising money.
But Moise could have some difficulty getting support from within his party. U.S. Rep. Steve Israel of New York, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, praised Wilson last week in a statement.
“Frederica Wilson is a leading progressive voice for Florida seniors and families,” Israel said. “We look forward to re-electing Rep. Wilson, so she can continue to fight for the middle class families of this district.”
