A Miami Beach commissioner has been accused of violating Florida’s Sunshine laws, and somebody really wants people to know.

An anonymous robocall apparently referencing the issue has been going around for days to residences and businesses.

“How familiar are you with the confirmed public corruption investigation into Miami Beach Commissioner Jonah Wolfson for criminal violations of Florida’s open government laws?” a woman voice asks on the recording.

The Herald reported last month that the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office had questioned Wolfson about whether he and Commissioner Deede Weithorn violated laws that prohibit elected officials from privately discussing upcoming votes. Wolfson, who denies breaking the law, said investigators’ questions focused on his ultimately tabled December motion to fire City Manager Jorge Gonzalez — which Weithorn seconded.

Wolfson says he believes the robocall and Sunshine violation probe are a reaction to his push to fire Gonzalez, who has run Miami Beach for a dozen years now.

“It’s just a series of lies compounded by nonsensical political terrorism.” Wolfson said.
